CiteRight LLC ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Citation Companion mobile application (the "App") and the website at citerightllc.com. This Privacy Policy explains the information collected when you use the App or contact us through the website, how that information is used, and the choices available to you.

No User Accounts or Direct Personal Information

Citation Companion does not require users to create an account. Through the App itself, we do not ask you to provide your name, email address, phone number, mailing address, password, contacts, photos, videos, health information, or other direct personal identifiers.

Analytics and App Usage Data

Citation Companion uses Google Analytics for Firebase to help us understand how the App is used and to improve reliability and usability. Depending on your device and use of the App, analytics information may include:

• App interactions, sessions, screen activity, and other usage events
• Approximate geographic location derived from technical information such as an IP address
• App-instance, installation, or other device-related identifiers
• In-app purchase events and purchase-related information, such as the product purchased and transaction event

Citation Companion does not use the Google Advertising ID and does not use analytics information for targeted advertising.

App Performance and Diagnostics

Citation Companion uses Firebase Performance Monitoring to help identify performance problems and improve App reliability. Performance and diagnostic information may include app startup and network performance, CPU and memory usage, device and operating-system information, App version, network connection information, Firebase installation identifiers, and approximate country or region derived from an IP address.

Free Citation Usage Data

Citation Companion allows three lifetime free citations before the one-time Full Access purchase is required. The technical method used to maintain that limit differs by platform:

• Android: the App uses a device-related Android identifier as the document key for a Firebase Firestore counter and stores the number of citations created and an update timestamp. A local counter is also maintained on the device.
• iOS: the App uses Apple's DeviceCheck service. A DeviceCheck token, the app environment, and the citation count needed for the free-use check are sent to a Firebase Cloud Function. The function uses the token to query or update Apple's DeviceCheck service. Citation Companion's custom function code does not store the raw DeviceCheck token in Firestore or another application database. Apple stores two per-device bits that Citation Companion uses to represent a free-citation count from 0 through 3.

This information is used for App functionality and abuse prevention, not for advertising or targeted marketing. Firebase Cloud Functions also processes technical invocation metadata, including the function name and caller IP address, as part of providing the service.

App Integrity and Security

On supported platforms, Citation Companion uses Firebase App Check to help protect Firebase resources from unauthorized clients. App Check may process app- or device-attestation information. On iOS, the configured DeviceCheck provider uses an Apple DeviceCheck token for this purpose. These security signals are used to verify legitimate App requests and protect backend services.

Firestore and Citation Templates

The App connects to Google Firebase Firestore to retrieve citation templates and reference types used by Citation Companion and, on Android, to maintain the free-citation counter described above. Citation text that you enter into the citation generator is not intentionally stored in Firestore as part of the citation-template or free-counter systems.

In-App Purchases

Citation Companion offers a one-time in-app purchase that unlocks unlimited citations and Word export. Payments are processed by the applicable app marketplace, such as Google Play or the Apple App Store. CiteRight LLC does not receive or store your complete payment-card information. The marketplace manages purchase authorization and restoration. Firebase Analytics may record purchase-event information for analytics purposes.

Data Stored on Your Device

Citation history that you choose to save is stored locally on your device using the device's built-in storage. Saved citation content is not intentionally transmitted to CiteRight LLC or Firebase Analytics as citation content. You can delete locally stored citation history through the App's available controls or by removing the App's local data from your device.

If you use copy, share, or export features, citation content is handled by the destination or operating-system sharing option you select.

Website Analytics and Contact Form

The CiteRight LLC website uses Google Analytics to measure website traffic and engagement. If you choose to contact us through the website, information you voluntarily provide, such as your name, email address, message type, and message, is used to respond to your inquiry and provide support. The website is hosted using Netlify, and website form submissions may be processed by Netlify as our hosting/form service provider. Website contact information is separate from the App's analytics and free-citation counter data.

Data Sharing and Service Providers

CiteRight LLC does not sell user data and does not use user data for third-party advertising. We use service providers and platform operators, including Google Firebase, Google Analytics, Apple DeviceCheck, Google Play, the Apple App Store, and Netlify, as necessary to operate, secure, measure, distribute, and support Citation Companion and the CiteRight LLC website. These providers may process information on our behalf or as independent platform operators according to their applicable terms and privacy practices.

Data Security

Data transmitted between Citation Companion and Firebase services is encrypted in transit. We use reasonable administrative and technical measures appropriate to the nature of the information handled by the App and website.

Data Retention and Deletion

Citation Companion does not maintain user accounts that connect App analytics records to a user's name or email address. Analytics and performance information is retained according to the applicable Google Analytics and Firebase settings and practices. Free-citation usage records or DeviceCheck state may be retained as needed to enforce the lifetime free-citation limit. Locally stored citation history can be deleted from the user's device.

You may contact us with a privacy or deletion request. Because App analytics and free-use records are not tied by CiteRight LLC to a named user account, we may be unable to identify a particular technical record without sufficient information, and information maintained by an app marketplace or other platform provider is subject to that provider's controls and policies.

Children's Privacy

Citation Companion is intended for adults and is listed on Google Play for users age 18 and over. The App does not provide user accounts and we do not knowingly solicit personal information from children through the App.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when Citation Companion's features, services, or data practices change. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
